10 Things You Can Do To Help Save The Earth

Informative article on: 10 Things You Can Do To Help Save The Earth
While there are an almost infinite number of things that can be done to save the earth, it only takes being aware of a few small things In order to have a major impact. If everyone learned to do just 10 things each day, the earth would finally have a chance to recover from much of the damage we have wrought over the years. Just 10 things you can do to help save the earth will make this a better place for all.

1. Recycle - Second to carbon emissions from vehicles and manufacturing plants, waste is a leading cause for environmental pollution and global warming. Recycle as often as possible. Donate to charities any items that are still serviceable rather than disposing of them. There is an old saying that says this best. “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.”

2. Energy Efficient Appliances - Whenever possible, replace older model appliances with models that have been labeled as Energy Star Compliant. Cutting back on the amount of energy we are using also reduces the amount of fossil fuels being burned, and of course reduces carbon emissions.

3. Drive Less, Walk More - It can’t be said enough how lethal carbon emissions are. There are already irreparable tears in the ozone that are known to be the cause of global warming. If you are only traveling a mile or less, leave the car at home and walk a bit. You save the earth and get some much needed exercise at the same time.

4. Reduce Waste - Many people aren’t aware of all the damage that accumulating waste does to the planet. It needs to be either used as landfill that places dangerous chemicals into the earth or burned which releases toxins into the atmosphere. By using reusable products or buying in bulk to reduce the amount of packaging used, you will be doing your part to reduce waste.

5. Fight Deforestation, Plant Trees - The most important part of the process of photosynthesis takes carbon from the air and releases oxygen in its place. While you may not be able to directly stop deforestation, you can lobby government leaders and boycott companies responsible for the devastation. Do your part and plant a tree.

6. Protect Our Water - There are a couple of ways to protect our water. First, never throw waste or trash into a storm drain, a lake, a pond, a river or even the ocean. Secondly, be cognizant of chemicals such as fertilizer and pesticides that you use on your property. The watershed is just below the surface in many regions and you will be sending pollutants into water you will be drinking.

7. Proper Disposal of Chemical Waste - Just as you should be conscious of not using chemicals on your property since it will be polluting the earth, so too is it necessary to be aware of proper disposal of chemical waste. Always locate a government approved disposal site to dump any toxic waste.

8. Indoor Climate Control. Another area that can help save the planet is by being aware of just how much fossil fuel is burned to manufacture electricity. One way to reduce the amount of electric you use is to keep your thermostat set to 78F in the summer and 68F in the winter.

9. Turn It Off & Unplug It - When not in use, turn off all appliances and electronics. Switch off lights when leaving the room and try to remember to unplug everything not currently in use. Many people aren’t aware of the fact that even when an appliance is turned off; it drains a trickle of current which adds up over the course of a month.

10. Use Renewable Energy - Whenever possible, use renewable energy. Contrary to what we have always been taught, at some point there is an end to fossil fuels. Renewable energy such as solar power, hydropower and biomass are replenishable. Also, renewable energy does not emit dangerous chemicals into the atmosphere.

There are so many things that can be done, and this is just a start. Find 10 things you can do to save the earth that are within your means. Not everyone can buy solar panels for renewable energy or new Energy Star compliant appliances. But each and every one of us can reduce the amount of waste we create or turn off a light when leaving the room. It’s the little things that add up.
