Light Emitting Diodes (LED´s) are a lighting source that was originally invented almost 50 years ago. They have been used in a variety of applications, but are only recently emerging as a lighting solution for homes and commercial buildings.
History of LED´s
The very first LED light bulb was first invented at the General Electric Company in the early 1960s. Soon LED lighting was being used for things like traffic lights, calculator displays, and indicator lights on electrical equipment. The only real downside to these lights, was that they initially only came in red, yellow and green. It was not until a blue color was finally created that a researcher was able to use it to produce a white-looking light. This bright white light was very cold, and most consumers could still identify the blue tone to it. This harsh white light has been the main reason that consumers have avoided LED lighting for residential or commercial spaces in the past.

It was not until the invention of warm white LED lighting that a market finally emerged for LED´s as a primary light source. It was discovered by accident by a researcher who was altering the functionality of an existing LED light, and he immediately recognized the potential of the unexpected result. Warm white LED lighting has now found applications from Christmas tree lights to home and commercial lighting. Consumers often find warm white LED lighting to be more appealing than the regular white LED´s.

With the introduction of warm white LED lighting, consumers now have an excellent choice over the conventional lighting options. These warm white lights are a great alternative to the harsh blue-light that LED´s used to offer, which makes them a welcomed addition to residences and commercial buildings. There are nearly endless applications for warm white LED´s. Producers are able to make them in a variety of shapes and sizes. Already popular around the home as Christmas lights, since they give off a warm glow, while using less electricity; they are also being utilized in other areas such as recessed lighting, standard shelf lighting, reading lighting and landscape lighting. LED lighting is incredibly versatile, and now in much higher demand since the introduction of the warm white lights.
From residences to commercial buildings, the applications for LED lights are endless. Since the advent of warm white LED lights, they have increased in popularity and are expected to continue.
