LED flashlights operate pretty much the same as the traditional flashlights that have been around for years. The difference is in the quality of the light and the life span of the bulbs. 1) The LED Makeup
The main, and most visible part of the LED flashlight is the housing, or outside of the light. This is where all the components that make the flashlight work are stored. The batteries, the reflector, the contact points, the bulb, and the springs that enable the electrical current to be established from the batteries are all inside. There is a lens cover that is either glass or plastic to protect the bulb on the outside, along with the on and off (or mode) selector switch.
2) How Does the LED Flashlight Work?
An LED flashlight works pretty much like any other flashlight in that contact must be made between the batteries and the lamp for the bulb to emit light. The switch on the flashlight enables the contact to happen, and when the electricity flows, the LED lamp will be energized and begin to glow. Visible light is reflected away from the lens as it focuses to produce a stable light beam. The light that is produced is bright and crisp and can encompass a wide area. LED flashlights are preferred over traditional lighting methods because of the clean, brilliant light they can produce, and the fact that some can last over 100 hours before batteries have to be replaced; regular flashlights only last about 3 hours before the batteries begin to give out.
4) Switching Off
To turn the LED flashlight off, simply press or slide the switch to the off position. The electric current stops and the flashlight powers off. It is important to remember to switch the light off when finished using the flashlight so that battery life isnt shortened. Figuring out how an LED flashlight works is probably not something many people give much thought to since most simply enjoy the fact that this type of light is so bright and reliable.
