Cree is a company that is considered a modern pioneer in LED technology. Hence, it comes as no surprise that they have launched their new collection of Cree LED flashlights. These flashlights are sturdy, longer lasting and provide the double advantage of having LED bulbs inside instead of the regular incandescent ones. Thus, these Cree flashlights are extremely durable while being energy-efficient at the same time.
Features
The range of Cree LED flashlights come with various features which make these flashlights an excellent investment. They come in a range of exteriors, from the slim and smooth to the sturdier looking for extreme conditions. These LED flashlights contain an optical lens for specific light angling. Some of the standard models have switchable 3 modes such as low, high and off; while others have up to 7 unique lighting modes. Out of these 7 modes, 5 are for dimming and the other two are strobe and SOS modes some even have a memory function. It is easy to find different models of these particular lights and it is important to check individual model specifications before purchase.
Body Construction
The entire body of these Cree LED flashlights is comprised of machined aluminum along with thick, hard anodized coating. This imparts a high degree of durability to the flashlight exterior. On one side of the body is a clip with black finish, held in place with two screws and a triangular head. The flashlights also come with three checkered rings over the light. One ring is situated around the head base, the other around the bodys center and the third round the tail cap region. There are multiple flanges as well as steps along the tube of the body, which imparts sufficient grip. The entire flashlight is easily disassembled.
Head Construction
Many of the Cree LED flashlight heads come with a scalloped design. This helps light seep out should the flashlight be placed face down. The presence of raised teeth also helps in situations of self-defense as a striking mechanism. There is a window lens to protect the reflector as well as the Cree LED within. It is easy to remove the heads front, thereby exposing the inner reflector. The two reflectors are made out of aluminum along with a highly polished inside coating. There is one O-ring situated at the reflector base which has to be in its proper position for optimal alignment and functionality.
Compared to direct sunrays, the light output from the Cree LED flashlights appears slightly purplish in its hue. However, in dark rooms, it looks like an intense bright white light. High settings on the flashlight provide an output of almost 139 lumens. In terms of runtime, it can last close to an hour and a half with a single charge. With a low setting on the flashlight, it is possible to obtain an output of around 13.9 lumens which will extend the battery life.
Overall, Cree LED flashlights have superior output levels and throw of light. Their reflectors can be changed very easily and there are multiple functions for the output, which enhance battery life. While they might not last as long as regular battery powered LED flashlights, the rechargeable batteries allow for continued use at a low expense.
