The Pros and Cons of LED Christmas Lights

Useful info on: The Pros and Cons of LED Christmas Lights
With recent advances in technology, holiday lighting is not what it used to be, and LED lighting has evolved into one of the most popular types during the Christmas season. As with anything else, individuals need to be aware of what they are purchasing. They need to familiarise themselves with the pros and cons of LED Christmas lights in order to make a sound decision when choosing lights for the season.

Pro: Energy Efficient

The energy utilised when using LED lights for Christmas is significantly less than other types of lighting, such as fluorescent and incandescent bulbs. In fact, the energy saved is as much as 80% to 90% of the portion that goes to holiday lighting. All households welcome reduced expenses, especially during this time of year when bills are already running high. When discussing the pros and cons of LED Christmas lights, energy expenditure is always one of the biggest concerns.

Pro: Durability

How many times have we noticed that the Christmas lights bought last week are no longer working? This may be as a result of a blown fuse, or for some unknown reason beyond comprehension. LED Christmas lights have been developed to withstand pressure so they do not break easily. This is exactly what is required during the Christmas season, when there is so much handling of lights where decorating is concerned. They are also water resistant which makes them great for outdoor decorating!

Pro: Longevity

The life span of LED Christmas lights can be anywhere from 50 000 to 100,000 hours, which means that they may never need to be replaced for literally decades, if at all. Compare that life span to incandescents which are rated at 2,000 hours and that is quite a long time, indeed. Other Christmas lights may be less expensive; however, the maintenance in terms of how often they are replaced usually far surpasses the cost of LED Christmas lights.

Pro: Realistic Colors

No other type of lights can compare to LED technology when weighing the pros and cons of LED Christmas lights. Because the color in incandescent lights is dependent upon the color of the glass globe surrounding the filament, colors are nowhere near realistic. The colors produced by LED lights are actually emitted in the exact wavelength that closely resembles natural colors of the visible light spectrum.

Pro: Safety

LED Christmas lights can be left on without any excessive worrying about the element of safety. These Christmas lights do not get hot, and as a result the chance of a possible accidental fire is very slim. Children and adults alike may accidentally pass close to an LED lighting system during the Christmas season without the fear of being burned. Of course, this is also a plus in areas where a high traffic of children exists and curious hands may be always waiting to pull and tug at an enticing blinking bulb. Even if they should reach out and grab a bulb, it will not be hot enough to burn.

Questionable Con: Initial Cost

Of all the pros and cons of LED Christmas lights, the only item that could be enumerated as a con would be the initial cost. However, even this is questionable in that respect. While it is true that they cost a little more to buy, their advantages in terms of energy efficiency, durability, longevity, realistic colors and safety far outweigh spending a few more dollars to buy these amazing lights. In fact, over the course of just one holiday season, the savings on energy alone will more than make up for the difference in cost.

It is quite evident that after reviewing the pros and cons of LED Christmas lights, that the pros far outweigh that single questionable con, and even that is a fleeting memory when the electric bill comes in. Because these lights are built to last for decades to come, LED Christmas lights will be providing joyous memories long after that initial expense has been recouped.
