Although many consumers are aware of LED lights in terms of electronics, many people are not aware of all the advantages of LED lights for the home. LED lights are cheaper to run that any other type of light source, are built with solid state construction so they last infinitely longer and they are also eco friendly. Any style bulb or fixture that can house incandescent, halogen or fluorescent bulbs can also hold a retrofit LED Lamp.
LED Clusters Diffused Bulbs
LED lights for home of this variety are actually used for area lighting. They come with in a standard Edison base and are able to spread light out to a wide area, thus the terminology diffuse. Current uses are for rooms, porches, lamps, entryways and hallways; anywhere that low-light illumination is needed.
High Power Bulbs Diffused
This is the type of bulb that is used for most home lighting. They can produce illumination equivalent to 100 watt bulbs and are currently approved by the FCC and are UL listed. The first brands to be released were branded EvoLux and ZetaLux.
LED Track Lighting
LED lights for home are also available in standard Edison or pin base products. The beauty of LED track lighting is the absence of heat. LED lamps are cool to the touch yet can put out bright white lights equivalent to fluorescent or halogen track lights. They are also the longest lasting bulbs on the market, as they have a life expectancy 10x that of CFLs.
LED Spotlight and Recessed Downlight Bulbs
Another recent development is the availability of LED lamps for lighting pots (standard recessed) and housings. The quality of light and color are similar to incandescents but they use only 10% of the power to operate and last 10x longer than even CFL bulbs.
LED Floodlights and Spotlights
LED lights for home are also available in LED floodlights and spotlights. They actually appear brighter because the light is more easily directed forward and above all, they are cool light that will last at least 50,000 hours. Because they utilize approximately 90% less power than incandescents, these lights provide a significant savings over time.
Congress has enacted legislation that by the year 2012 all lights must be 30% more efficient or they will be pulled off the market. The only lamps that have the capability of being that efficient are LED lights for the home, and realizing this, many consumers are making the switch now. It is remarkable to consider that with a few simple changes, it is possible to save from 40% to 50% of annual costs of electricity.
