LED Lights for Freezers

LED Lighting is energy efficient and long lasting. This article on LED Lights for Freezers provides you with all the information on how and why to use LED Lights for Freezers.
Although many grocery stores and supermarkets still use fluorescent lighting in their freezer display cases, more and more businesses are switching over to LED lights for freezers because of several key benefits they offer. It should also be noted that the United States government legislated that by the year 2012 all lamps sold for both commercial and home use must be at least 33% more energy efficient. Even fluorescent bulbs will not meet those requirements. As a result, the major lamp manufacturers are providing LED lights for freezers that are designed to retro fit current fluorescent fixtures.

Most Efficient Lighting in Cold Conditions

One of the major problems that both incandescent and fluorescent bulbs have always had is their inability to operate efficiently under extremely cold conditions. Because LED lights for freezers are solid state and provide luminance due to movement of electrons, they are not susceptible to cold temperatures. In simple terms, they don’t give off light as a result of any heat source. Because of this, they operate much more efficiently and provide even luminance under the coldest temperature settings required in freezer display cases.

Preferred Luminance per Consumer Survey

According to a survey conducted by the Lighting Research Center (LRC) of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, consumers preferred the quality of luminance of LEDs above and beyond fluorescent lamps in all areas. Among areas questioned were the actual quality of light, the lack of glare and the colors of LED lights for freezers. Even at lower luminance, LEDs provided a better quality of lighting as opposed to fluorescent lamps according to those consumers surveyed. LRC has been the premier university based lighting research group since 1988, and they have build a reputation for being unbiased and ethical in their findings.

Better Distribution of Light – Eco Friendly – Energy Efficient

One of the key advantages to using LED lights for freezers is the fact that light is able to be more easily distributed. LED lamps are eco friendly in that they contain no dangerous metals such as mercury, and they don’t emit any infrared or UV radiation. LED lights for freezers are rated at 50,000 hours so they are extremely long lived. They utilize only a small fraction of the energy that incandescent bulbs use, and less than half the energy consumption of fluorescent bulbs. Because they provide such a significant savings in energy consumption, businesses are reporting sizable reduction in electric bills after just the first month. Lighting in and around freezers accounts for more than half of an electric bill in most supermarkets, so cutting that amount by more than half is a huge savings.

LED lights for freezers meet with both consumer and commercial satisfaction. Consumers are happier with the lighting LED lamps provide and business owners are grateful for the reduction in the amount of their electric bills. While there are still about 18 months before government legislation goes into effect, businesses would be well advised to make the switch as soon as possible. The advantages are well worth the initial expenditure.
